The Threlfalls

The Threlfalls

It’s 1948 and Britain is still enduring the aftermath of the Second World War. Many goods are still rationed.

Charlie Fletcher is a publican in Leeds, West Riding of Yorkshire; he always has plenty of cash and ration coupons, as a result of his black market dealings. His business interests are thriving. To his great surprise he falls in love with a young Irish girl, Siobhan. They marry and have a daughter, Susan who is thoroughly spoilt by her father.

‘The Threlfalls’ charts Susan’s early years at school, and as a teenager. She grows up to be streetwise, though she isn’t academic. Her friendships and experiences during the 1950’s and 60’s in Leeds see her grow into an independent, secretive and willful young woman who isn’t afraid of danger.
